Synesthesia is a neurological phenomenon that causes one's brain to automatically associate senses that otherwise wouldn't be connected. In my case with sound-to-color synesthesia, this creates an effect where I "see" sounds (sometimes more vividly than others). I've had this neurological quirk as long as I can remember, and it's just a part of how I move through life. With this being my particularly unique perspective of the already-weird world we live in, I've decided I want to document as much of it as possible in the way that most makes sense to me: by painting sound.

And so here I am, painting voices and music for strangers across the globe through the magic of the internet. I took my first professional synesthesia art commission in mid-July of 2020, and haven't stopped since. So far, I've painted 600+ recorded sounds - everything from wedding vows to debut albums to a molten hot cube of metal being dropped in a jar of mayonnaise. (Yes, that last one is a real example.) Along the way, I've been helping people gain confidence in their own voice, remember loved ones from a distance, and so much more.

While I'm still taking a bit of a posting break from TikTok, I remain active on Instagram and Patreon, as well as staying open for the usual commissions. I'm always happy to have a chance to paint new sounds, even if I'm in the process of shifting platforms! After checkout, you should receive an email with your confirmation number and an additional message containing instructions. Simply reply to that email with your selected sound clip, along with any information you'd like me to know regarding your commission. This could include information about the person speaking, what the music means to you, etc., or nothing at all! How much you do or do not share is entirely up to you, and will not necessarily affect the outcome of the final piece.

Please refer to the guidelines on the product listings for sound clip length limits. I'm very flexible with file types - just please make sure I have any necessary permissions to access the file (especially if you're sharing a social media link). Please also know that if you order a custom piece and leave no means of contacting you, I won't be able to complete your order. While you're free to wait as long as you'd like to submit your sound clip, I can't start the process without knowing what I'm painting or having some way to reach you.

Digital delivery of your custom painting(s) via email can take anywhere from a few days to 3 weeks or more; it all depends on how long my to-do list is, but I do my best to let someone know early if I think it will take longer than that estimate. If you would like your piece sent to you by a certain date, please indicate this at the time you order AND order at least a week ahead of when you will need it completed. Otherwise, I cannot guarantee you'll get it in time.

Once finished, you'll receive an email with your completed order! The email will contain a download link, rather than an email attachment - this is because the file sizes I use are often too large for traditional methods. Just click on the link in that email to be taken to the download page, and you'll be all set to go with your custom digital synesthesia art!
